‘what something does as it becomes nothing’ is a 25m solo combining my heavily researched slow movement and ancestral channeling practices to achieve trance state through the energetic and vibratory hymn of techno music.
The piece starts in silence with the house and work lights on. In slow increments, the lights in the space dim while the volume of the music rises. Concurrently, I am moving slowly in a straight line from upstage to downstage. Eventually, the house lights go out entirely and I am left with only a small pool of warm light from above as I thrash in close proximity to the audience. In the final minutes of the piece the lights rise as the music weakens, leaving me alone where I started – trance complete.
