‘Fitting / Standing’ is a 10-minute solo I created in the summer of 2020. It was presented at A Shedding in Salt Lake City.

With this solo, I posed the question: How far will I go to be right…to be perfect? In other words: How far will I go to be white? It addresses oppression, code-switching, inequity, socio-cultural boxes, and more.

_

Fitting / Standing is the beginning of a larger solo which I am in currently the process of developing, titled ‘ENUF.’ This solo chronicles my travel to my homeland of Guyana as I call upon my ancestors for guidance and explore the deep generational wisdom that lives both in my body and the elemental forces all around me. It abstractly traces my trajectory to self-knowingness and acceptance – I am enough.
